Bailee Rios is due to appear for arraignment in San Fernando on Thursday after previous court appearances were postponed because of medical concerns following a fatal Metro bus crash in Chatsworth.
The 36-year-old Simi Valley woman faces two counts of second-degree murder, as well as charges of driving under the influence of drugs causing injury and reckless driving on a highway.
Prosecutors allege that Rios was driving a Ford Expedition at high speed on the wrong side of De Soto Avenue on 15 September when she ran a red light and struck a Metro bus at the junction with Nordhoff Street.
Two passengers, Daniel Castillo, 46, and Gage Weida, 31, were killed in the collision. Several others were injured, including Rios, who was taken to hospital after firefighters freed her from the wreckage.
Her arraignment has been delayed repeatedly. On Friday, she was brought to the San Fernando courthouse by ambulance but did not enter the courtroom, with the judge ruling that she was not medically fit to take part in the proceedings.
Rios was again unable to appear on Monday, prompting another postponement. She remains in custody on bail of about $4.1 million.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office alleges that she was impaired by drugs at the time of the crash and that narcotics were found in her vehicle. The allegations have not been tested in court.
