Chelsea remain interested in Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara but are unwilling to meet the French club’s current €70 million (£59 million) valuation.
The Senegal international was close to joining the Blues during the summer, when the two clubs reportedly reached a provisional agreement worth about €55 million on deadline day. Monaco subsequently withdrew from the deal.
Chelsea continue to monitor Lamine Camara
Chelsea’s interest has not faded, although the increased asking price has changed their position. The London club are understood to believe Monaco’s latest valuation is excessive and do not want to overpay for a player they previously appeared capable of signing for less.
Camara’s performances this season have strengthened Monaco’s hand. The 22-year-old has started all seven of the club’s league matches, registering 630 minutes, a 91 per cent pass-completion rate and 63 ball recoveries.
He has become an important part of Monaco’s midfield, combining energy and aggression in challenges with the ability to receive possession under pressure.
The player also fits Chelsea’s preference for younger recruits with scope for further development. The club’s midfield options were reduced during the summer following the departures of Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos, leaving a need for greater control and physical presence.
However, Chelsea’s stance is that €70 million is too high, particularly given the lower figure discussed just weeks earlier. Their interest could become active again if Monaco reduce their demands towards the previous summer valuation.
