A 14-year-old Davenport High School student has died after being struck by a car while riding an electric scooter in Florida, authorities said.
The crash happened at about 7.55pm on Thursday, September 17, at the junction of US 27 and McFee Drive in the Four Corners area of Davenport, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said the boy was riding a NIU Kick scooter eastwards through a crosswalk when he moved into the path of a black 2026 Ford Explorer travelling north in the centre lane. The vehicle had a green traffic signal, they said.

Emergency crews took the ninth-grade pupil to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His identity has not been released.
The driver, a 38-year-old man from Orlando, remained at the scene and co-operated with deputies.
Northbound US 27 was closed for about three hours while investigators examined the crash site and cleared the road.
The sheriff’s office has not said whether speed or visibility played a role. No charges are expected at this stage, although the investigation remains ongoing.
