One man has been killed and another injured after a domestic-related shooting in Pontiac, Michigan, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were called to a property in the 50 block of Monroe Street at about 7.15pm on Saturday following reports of a domestic disturbance. Gunshots could be heard in the background of a call to the sheriff’s operations centre, officials said.
A 38-year-old man from Mount Clemens was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second man, aged 31 and from St Clair Shores, had been shot in the leg. He was arrested without incident and taken to hospital, where he remains under guard.
Investigators believe the shooting followed a confrontation involving the dead man, his estranged wife and the injured suspect.
Several children were present during part of the incident, but none was physically injured, according to authorities.
The injured man is expected to be taken to Oakland County Jail once he has been medically cleared. The case will then be reviewed by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, while investigators continue to establish what led to the shooting.
