A truck driver escaped injury after a load of timber crashed through his windscreen at a busy intersection north of Adelaide.
The flat-back truck was travelling east on Grand Junction Road when it stopped at traffic lights at the junction with Churchill Road in Dry Creek at about 8.30am on Thursday.
Several planks then shifted forward, penetrating the rear of the cab before breaking through the front windscreen and sliding into the intersection. The timber was left scattered across the road, creating a serious hazard for other motorists.
South Australia Police said the driver, a 57-year-old man from Craigmore, and other road users were not injured. The incident nevertheless caused major disruption while the debris and vehicle were cleared.
A police spokesman said: “It will be alleged that the truck was travelling east on Grand Junction Road and had stopped at traffic lights when the load shifted forward.”
“Several timber planks penetrated the rear window of the cab, exited through the front windscreen and slid into the intersection, creating a serious hazard for other road users,” he added. “Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.”
The driver has been reported for an alleged severe-risk load-restraint breach under the Heavy Vehicle National Law and is due to face court at a later date.
