A married couple have been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing their 40-year-old son-in-law near a sports complex in Dublin, California.
Jonathan McKinsey, who lived in Dublin, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the car park at Dublin Sports Grounds on Saturday, September 26. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dublin Police Services said officers were called to the facility on Dublin Boulevard at about 3.08pm after receiving several emergency reports of a shooting. A sergeant driving nearby had spotted a man lying in the car park and stopped to investigate.
Witnesses helped officers locate two suspects who had remained close to the scene. Police said the pair were detained within minutes of the shooting.
The suspects were named as Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77 and from Dublin. They are married and, according to police, were McKinsey’s parents-in-law.
Zhang and Chen were arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into Santa Rita Jail. No charges have been proved against either of them.
Police have not disclosed a possible motive and said the investigation remains under way. Authorities have confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Anyone with information about the shooting has been asked to contact Dublin Police Services Sergeant Ahmad Mateen on 925-786-7989.
