Police in Chatham County, Georgia, are trying to identify a man accused of entering a private property, swimming in the family pool and hot tub, and leaving with six luxury beach towels worth $1,200.
The overnight visit took place at a home in the 9000 block of Whitefield Avenue on 1 September, with surveillance footage showing the intruder on the property between 2.15am and 5.30am.
According to the Chatham County Police Department, the man first went into the pool before moving to the hot tub. He then spent more than 10 minutes repeatedly interacting with a rubber duck floating in the water.
Police said he eventually left on a bicycle, with the towels packed into the front basket. Each towel was reportedly valued at about $200.
The department has released images from the surveillance footage and is asking anyone who recognises the man, or has information about the alleged trespassing and theft, to come forward.
“He trespassed onto their property, used their hot tub, became obsessed with their rubber duck, then stole their pool towels,” the department said in a post on Facebook.
Police added that the incident was “obviously not the biggest crime” officers had dealt with that month, but said it had “a lot of ick-factor” and that they wanted to identify the suspect to prevent similar incidents.
