Farmer Wants A Wife couple Zac and Maya have split, almost two months after the reunion episode left them as the only pair still together.
The former couple confirmed in a joint Instagram post on Monday that they had decided to go their “separate ways”, after struggling to maintain their relationship across state lines.
Apple farmer Zac lives in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills, while Maya works and lives in Melbourne. At the reunion, the pair had acknowledged that the distance was their biggest obstacle, with Maya saying she planned to move to South Australia within six to 12 months.
However, they said the timing was not right for that next step.
“From the beginning, our connection was strong. We then became each other’s best friends, which led us into an amazing relationship,” they wrote.
“Navigating our relationship while being long-distance proved to be no easy journey.
“The timing for us to make that next move wasn’t right, and unfortunately, this shifted the relationship. We have therefore decided to go our separate ways.”
Zac and Maya said they remained friends, insisting there was “no bad blood” between them and that they still had “an immense amount of love and respect for each other”.
They added that they were “incredibly grateful” to the programme for bringing them together and would “cherish the memories and experiences we shared forever”.
Zac chose Maya after final decision
Zac’s journey on Farmer Wants A Wife came down to a choice between Maya and runner-up Mieke. Although he had been drawn to Mieke, he ultimately decided he could see a future with Maya.
Maya said at the time: “I’m so happy. I’m definitely falling in love with him. He is the guy I’ve been looking for.”
During the reunion, Zac said Maya was the person he felt most comfortable with and spoke about the possibility of marrying her.
“She is someone who I feel most comfortable with, we’ve had so many laughs and good times,” he said. “I want to spend my future with Maya – potentially be my wife one day.”
After the episode aired, the couple also appeared to joke about expecting a baby in a video montage of their relationship. Zac captioned it, “This kids is how I met your mother”, while Maya commented: “19 weeks today.”
The post prompted fans to offer congratulations, although it was later confirmed that they were not expecting a baby and that the announcement had been intended as a joke.
Fans and former contestants have since responded to the break-up announcement. Scarlett, a runner-up on farmer Dylan’s season, wrote: “I don’t believe in love anymore.”
Ally, Dylan’s final choice, said the pair were “two of the most beautiful people I know” and wished them “nothing but happiness for the next chapter”.
