Sunny autumn weather drew families to Cedarburg Creek Farm in Wisconsin on Saturday, 3 October, as visitors searched for pumpkins despite a smaller crop than usual.
The farm’s owner, Robert Hartwig, said weather conditions during the growing season had affected production. However, he said there were still enough pumpkins across the farm’s fields to meet demand.
“There’s not as many pumpkins out there, but we have plenty of acres of pumpkins here, so we won’t run out,” Mr Hartwig said.
Among those choosing pumpkins was Cooper Devenport, who said the visit had become an annual family activity. His family had previously travelled further afield, but this was their first time picking pumpkins in Ozaukee County.
“We really like it here. This is our second time here. We usually drive really far, but this is our first time doing it at home in Ozaukee County,” he said.
Jennifer Piller said the trip was also part of a birthday tradition. She said the fine weather had made the occasion more enjoyable.
“We almost always come here,” Ms Piller said. “We get our pumpkins every year, and it’s fun when it’s really nice out like today.”
Cedarburg Creek Farm offers pick-your-own pumpkins and other seasonal activities, including hayrides and a corn maze. Its autumn season is scheduled to continue into early November, weather permitting.
Mr Hartwig expects visitor numbers to increase as Halloween approaches and advised people planning a visit to allow sufficient time for the expected traffic.
