Ford is expanding V-8 availability and cutting the starting prices of selected performance models in its 2027 F-150 line-up, as the Detroit manufacturer seeks to offer customers more choice amid wider affordability concerns.
The 2027 F-150 Raptor will start at $77,800, a reduction of $4,000 from the current model. The Tremor’s starting price will fall by about $5,300 to $62,400.
Ford said the lower prices had been achieved by removing some standard equipment. Changes include making heated second-row seats optional and replacing power controls with manual controls for some features, including the steering column.
Todd Eckert, senior director of truck consumer marketing at Ford Blue, said the changes would broaden the range without reducing the capability of the vehicles.
“For us, it made sense because it just broadens the offer and certainly doesn’t take away from either the capability of that new entry or of the model that it came down from,” he said.
Ford will offer its 5.0-litre V-8 engine across every model in the F-150 range, including the high-end King Ranch and Platinum versions. It will be the first time since the 2023 model year that those two models have offered a V-8 option.
Mr Eckert said Ford had received strong requests from customers and dealers for the engine to be made available in the premium models.
“We heard pretty loudly from both customers and dealers that even on those premium series, that they wanted the option to have a V-8 engine,” he said.
The 2027 Ford F-150 line-up will also receive styling changes across several models, alongside the introduction of a Carhartt version created with the Detroit-based clothing company.
The updates come as Ford works to increase availability of its key pickup trucks after fires at an aluminium supplier severely affected production over the past year. The disruption particularly hit the F-Series, including the F-150 and the larger F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty models, because of their extensive use of aluminium bodies and other components.
