Fremantle College has staged an elaborate Fremantle Dockers tribute ahead of the Grand Final, announcing a tongue-in-cheek plan to change its name, school song and uniform for one day.
The school’s satirical announcement was delivered in a “breaking news” video by principal Stan Koios, who explained his recent absence by claiming he had been involved in negotiations over the proposal.
“I’m here to set the record straight. The truth is for the last 48 hours I’ve been involved in some very serious negotiations,” Mr Koios said.
He said the fictional talks had included conference calls, strategy meetings, lawyers and advisers, as well as “several packets of Tim Tams”. The arrangement was then supposedly approved by Western Australia Premier Roger Cook.
Under the mock agreement, Fremantle College would become Fremantle Dockers College for one day, while the school song would be replaced by “other Fremantle legend” ACDC. Students and staff would also be allowed to wear purple.
Mr Koios said the initiative would support the Dockers’ major charity partner, the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The school community has been encouraged to wear purple and bring a gold coin donation for the charity.
