The UK’s FTSE 100 closed at a seven-week high after fiscal reassurance from Healey and renewed buying of defensive shares supported the market.
The rise followed Healey’s backing for fiscal discipline, which helped ease concerns over the direction of public finances and provided reassurance to investors.
Defensive buying also contributed to the stronger performance, lifting the index to its highest closing level in seven weeks.
