A Slim Chickens employee in Gray, Georgia, has been handed the keys to a Hummer after his boss and colleagues decided to help him find a more reliable way to get around.
Antonio Gibson works at the restaurant, where owner Justin Kelly said he had developed into a kitchen leader and a source of encouragement for those around him.
The pair first met at a recruitment event at a local high school. Although Gibson faced some difficulties when he started the job, Kelly said he worked hard and became an important part of the team.
Gibson later celebrated receiving his first pay cheque worth more than $1,000, which he jokingly called his “big boy check”. He used part of the money to buy food, snacks and energy drinks for his colleagues.
Kelly and the restaurant team were aware that Gibson was looking for an affordable car. They discussed how they could help and arranged a surprise for him at the Gray restaurant.
As colleagues gathered around, Kelly told him: “What we wanted to do is we want to give you some keys to the Hummer.”
The gift included not only the keys but also the vehicle’s title, making Gibson the official owner. He accepted the Hummer with a smile, giving him a much larger ride for his journeys around Gray.
