The owner of the sober living facility where Presley Gerber died reportedly has a criminal past involving drug offences and an incident involving a minor.
Dr Reza Nabavi was arrested in Oakland in February 2002 after police reportedly found him asleep in his car in an area known for frequent narcotics and prostitution activity.
Nabavi, who was 25 at the time, was allegedly with a 15-year-old girl. She reportedly told officers that she was high on methamphetamine and did not know Nabavi well.
A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered methamphetamine, marijuana, a gun, ammunition and a hunting knife.
That May, Nabavi pleaded no contest to a misdemeanour charge of possessing a controlled substance and was sentenced to 36 months’ probation. Later the same month, he was arrested again after allegedly agreeing to sell methamphetamine to an informant.
He pleaded no contest to a second misdemeanour possession charge and received another 36-month probation sentence.
Two years later, Nabavi applied to register as a psychologist with the California Board of Psychology but was reportedly denied because of his conviction.
He eventually obtained a licence, although it was temporarily revoked in 2006 and he was placed on probation for five years. His current psychologist licence is due to expire on 30 June 2028.
