Tonight, the moon will edge across the sun in the fullest solar eclipse Britain will see this century which, in the world of astrology, is hugely significant.
Regarded as unusually potent turning points, eclipses usher in great periods of change and revelation. Hidden truths can surface and reversals of fortune occur. A relationship teetering on the brink might either blossom into something new and exciting or end altogether.
Since Britain is very much under the shadow of this eclipse, astrologers consider its influence especially powerful here: Regions that fall in its path are believed to feel its effects more strongly than those where it passes unseen. Astrologers have long been fascinated by prominent people born on eclipse days. Prince William was born on June 21, 1982, the day of a partial solar eclipse; Kate, Princess of Wales, on January 9, 1982, the day of a total lunar eclipse. US President Donald Trump was meanwhile born on June 14, 1946, another total lunar eclipse day.
So what might today’s eclipse, which takes place in the sign of Leo, mean for us? Three astrologers explain how to harness – or simply surrender to – its extraordinary energy.
Leos may be in the limelight but all star signs should make a wish

Today is not a day to sit around, letting the eclipse pass us by or even feeling frightened of its power. We need to use it. My first piece of advice is simple: If you do nothing else, make a wish. Do it as soon as you can after the eclipse.
Incidentally, by definition, a solar eclipse can only happen during the New Moon phase. But this event today is like a New Moon on steroids, catapulting us into the future whether we feel ready for it or not. Write down what you want to happen in the next six months then think hard about the practical things you can do to help it become a reality. I call this doing ‘the woo-woo and the work’.

It is easy to say, ‘I want my life to change’ but what does that really mean? A new job? More money? A different relationship? The courage to leave one? A house move?
Once you name it, you can begin looking for the opportunities and actions that support it.
Eclipses can also coincide with revelations. I think of them as moments when the universe changes gears. Sometimes something comes to light that we didn’t especially want to know: A truth about a relationship, an unbearable job or a pattern we have been tolerating for far too long.
I don’t necessarily see that as punishment. I see eclipses as fast-tracking us out of situations in which we have become stuck.
Now is the time to accept the end of a relationship – but better things will come.
That brings me to my biggest eclipse ‘don’t’: Don’t cling desperately to something that is very obviously trying to leave your life. Sometimes we have to clear something out before there is any room for the next chapter.
Because this eclipse is in Leo, I would use it to examine Leo ‘themes’, namely confidence, pride and creativity.
Ask yourself some uncomfortable questions. Is pride or your own ego getting in your way? Are you staying in a job, relationship or situation because admitting it is over feels like admitting defeat?
Or do you have the opposite problem: Have you been making yourself smaller when what you really need is to step into the limelight? That Leo theme matters particularly for Leo people because the Sun represents our sense of self, vitality and identity in astrology. I would ask every Leo: Does the person the world currently sees still reflect who you are? In which parts of your life are you ready to be braver, more visible or more creative?
Don’t gossip if you’re a Libra and expect a lucky windfall if you’re a Cancer

The most useful thing you can do this week is not stare anxiously into the future. Look backwards. Specifically, go through your camera roll and look at what was happening between February 17 and March 3 this year. This was the first eclipse season of 2026, when a lunar and solar eclipse both took place in other parts of the world.
Check your diary. Scroll through the photos on your phone. Search your messages and emails. Who were you talking about? What was worrying you? What did you know then but fail to act on? I would expect some of those themes, people or questions to reappear now in a more developed form.
February may have been episode one; August can be episode two.
One of my clients decided to separate during the spring eclipses. Now, as the summer eclipse arrives, the decision has become concrete and divorce papers have been served. Another client lost her job during the spring eclipse period. After months of unemployment, a new job has landed in her lap just as this eclipse season arrives.
There are specific messages in the eclipse for some signs. If you are a Cancer, for example, this eclipse will activate your second house, which governs finances (house simply means one of the 12 houses that govern your natal astrological birth chart). You may see money coming in from family members, especially in-laws.
If you’re a Libra, the eclipse will activate your 11th house of friendships. Since drama is always at the forefront of the eclipse season, be careful who you gossip to or about.
But eclipses don’t have to mean disaster. My own most memorable example was wonderfully positive. During the April 2024 eclipse, my Moon sign was impacted. You find your Moon sign by mapping the exact position of the Moon against the zodiac at the precise moment of your birth and forever afterwards it influences your emotions and private life.

At the time I had a serious crush at work and could no longer bear the tension of it! I finally told him how I felt – and we’ve been together ever since. I am sure that eclipse gave me the bravery and chutzpah to tell him and that he responded because of my energy.
I like to compare eclipse season to the spin cycle on a washing machine. It’s noisy and disruptive but luckily it doesn’t last for ever.
Be gentle with yourself and other people because emotions can feel heightened. Listen to whatever keeps demanding your attention. Expect a plot twist. Eclipses accelerate the inevitable, so if romantic foundations are shaky, you can bet the relationship will not last beyond August.
If life feels as though it has suddenly become noisy and chaotic, my advice is not to wrestle the washing machine door open halfway through the cycle. Let it spin. You may understand what was being cleared out only when things become quiet again.
Take notice of all the ‘signs’ you get this week – and treat them like a puzzle

I don’t expect everybody’s life-changing eclipse moment to happen neatly at 6.37pm today. An eclipse is more like someone setting up a line of dominoes in one area of your life. The pieces are put in place, then something comes along and knocks the first one over. Be aware: The effect can unfold for months.
Very often something happens around the eclipse that makes you question a situation but you do not yet have all the information. Eclipses are known to cover up missing parts of the puzzle.
That is why I would become a detective in your own life this week. Watch for information coming to light: A conversation, message, piece of news or fact that changes how you see somebody or something. Eventually it will slot into place and the importance of what you learn this week will become quite clear.
While I would never use astrology to diagnose illness, periods like this can be useful reminders not to ignore concerns you already have. If a symptom is worrying you, now is the time to get it medically checked.
Eclipses almost always mean change, often radical. Something you have procrastinated over may suddenly become urgent. An invitation, person or opportunity you did not expect can open a door you had never considered before.
If something unexpected happens, my first rule is to resist instantly labelling it a disaster. Ask yourself: ‘What is this showing me that I wasn’t seeing before?’
My second rule is to work out how it can be turned to your advantage. Where have you felt restless, stuck or increasingly dissatisfied? There is always a way to make change work for you, no matter how it first presents itself. There is one group I would tell to pay special attention: Anyone whose birthday falls within roughly four or five days either side of the eclipse. When an eclipse lands very close to your birthday I see it as shining a spotlight directly on you. It can feel like a crossroads or wake-up call. Old solutions may no longer work. If there is a change you already know you need to make, burying your head in the sand can simply mean circumstances eventually make the decision for you.
My own eclipse story changed my life. In 2013 I had an eclipse exactly on the point in my birth chart associated with home and family. I was in an abusive relationship and had already made the decision that I needed to leave but I had not yet managed to do it. A few months later I finally walked away. Then the dominoes kept falling: I left my job, sold my house and moved away to start a new life closer to my family.
I had no new job waiting and no grand plan. I simply felt an overwhelming push to go.
Looking back, I had outgrown both the relationship and the place long before I consciously admitted it. That is why I sometimes call eclipses a cosmic satnav. A sudden diversion can feel frightening when you cannot see where the alternative route leads but sometimes the roadblock is what finally makes you turn.
