Rick Ross was told he would be treated like any other defendant during a Miami court appearance after his lawyer asked whether his release from jail could be expedited because of the rapper’s fame and safety concerns.
Ross, whose real name is William Roberts II, appeared before Judge Mindy Glazer following his arrest on battery charges. His attorney, Bradley Horenstein, raised the issue of his celebrity status during the hearing.
Judge Glazer rejected the argument, telling Ross: “I have no idea who you are.” She added that he would be treated fairly “just like everybody else here.”
Rick Ross faces battery charges
Ross turned himself in after an ex-girlfriend accused him of becoming violent during an alleged incident on 28 August.
The woman told police that Ross allegedly slapped and struck her, choked her until she could not breathe, grabbed her by the ponytail and slammed her against a wall. She reported the allegations to police on Tuesday, before Ross surrendered.
He was arrested on felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery charges, and has pleaded not guilty to both.
His lawyers say he is not guilty and is being wrongfully accused.
