A second suspect has been charged in connection with the death of Kyle Bickham, who police allege was pushed from a moving Chicago Transit Authority Red Line train on the city’s South Side.
Katlar Parchman, 19, was arrested on Wednesday, 16 September, after investigators identified her as a suspect in the killing of the 29-year-old passenger.
Chicago police said Parchman faces five felony charges: first-degree murder, two counts of murder committed during another forcible felony, aggravated battery of a transit employee and mob action involving force by two or more people.
Bickham was travelling home from work on 7 September when he became involved in an altercation with other passengers, according to investigators. Police allege that the group forced open the doors of the last carriage while the train was moving and pushed him on to the tracks near the 69th Street station.
He fell on to the electrified third rail and was subsequently struck by another train, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 15-year-old girl has also been charged with murder in the case. She was previously ordered to remain in custody following a detention hearing.
Bickham’s family has appealed for witnesses and anyone with information about the other people allegedly involved to contact investigators.
The investigation remains ongoing. Parchman is due to appear in court for a detention hearing on Saturday, 19 September.
