Lionel Richie has been admitted to intensive care in St Louis after falling ill during a concert at the outdoor venue The Muny on Saturday night.
The 77-year-old singer checked himself into a local hospital following the performance on August 29, according to TMZ, which reported that doctors were carrying out tests and investigating possible dehydration. Richie appeared to struggle during the closing stages of the show, asking for a chair while performing “All Night Long”. Audience members said he had been drinking electrolyte fluids during the concert.
The performance was The Muny’s 2026 season finale. The St Louis theatre had billed it as a one-night-only concert featuring the music star, who is currently touring with Earth, Wind & Fire. During the show, Richie told the audience that he had been affected by health problems during the tour and had previously been diagnosed with dehydration by a doctor.

The latest hospital admission follows a similar incident in June, when Richie became unwell during a concert in St Paul, Minnesota. He told fans he felt dizzy and strange before the show was cut short and he was taken to hospital.
Richie rose to fame as a singer and songwriter with the Commodores before launching a successful solo career. His best-known songs include “Hello”, “Easy” and “Dancing On The Ceiling”, while his collaborations include “Endless Love” with Diana Ross and “We Are The World”, the 1985 charity single recorded with leading American artists.
