Liverpool are among the leading European clubs monitoring Club Tijuana midfielder Gilberto Mora, whose progress for club and country has made him one of the most closely watched teenagers in football.
The 17-year-old impressed during Mexico’s home World Cup this summer and has continued that form at the start of the new Liga MX campaign. He has scored five goals and supplied one assist in seven appearances for Tijuana.
Liverpool interest in Gilberto Mora faces European competition
Liverpool have tracked Mora since his emergence at Tijuana and remain interested in a potential move, according to reports from Football Insider.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also understood to be monitoring the attacking midfielder, setting up a highly competitive race for his signature.
Tijuana are reportedly willing to consider a sale at the end of the season, when Mora’s value could be at its highest. The Mexican club strengthened its position by handing him a new three-year contract shortly before the World Cup.
Mora’s reputation has been built on more than his domestic form. FIFA identified him as one of Mexico’s leading young talents before the tournament, highlighting his creativity between the lines, close control, passing and ability to receive the ball under pressure.
He also became the sixth-youngest player in World Cup history when he featured at the 2026 tournament aged 17 years and 240 days.
For Liverpool, any move appears more likely to be considered as a long-term recruitment project than an immediate January deal. Mora does not turn 18 until October 14, while international transfer rules concerning minors make a summer move more straightforward.
The teenager’s preferred position could eventually provide Liverpool with another creative option between midfield and the forward line. However, his age means a clear development plan and a realistic route towards first-team football will be important factors in any decision.
With Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern also watching his progress, Liverpool are expected to continue assessing Mora over the course of the season. If his development continues at its current pace, competition for his signature is likely to intensify before the next summer transfer window.
