Real Madrid interest in Alexis Mac Allister is intensifying as uncertainty continues over the Liverpool midfielder’s long-term future at Anfield.
The Argentina international remains an important part of Andoni Iraola’s plans, but Liverpool have yet to make extending his contract a priority. Mac Allister’s existing agreement runs until 2028, although the situation could attract increased attention when the 2027 transfer windows open.
Real Madrid have been monitoring the 27-year-old for some time and are understood to be among the clubs most seriously interested in his availability. The Spanish club have not made a formal offer, but could revisit the possibility of a move if negotiations over a new Liverpool contract fail to progress.
Mac Allister frustration adds to Liverpool uncertainty
The midfielder has already expressed disappointment at not receiving an extension, particularly after fellow midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch agreed new deals.
“Very sad” was how Mac Allister described his feelings earlier this month, but his frustration has not affected his performances on the pitch.
He scored the winning goal in Liverpool’s 2-1 Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid, underlining his importance to Iraola’s midfield. The head coach also made clear in July that he wanted Mac Allister to remain at Liverpool despite Real Madrid’s interest.
Liverpool are not facing an immediate contractual crisis, with almost two years remaining on the player’s current deal. However, the position could become more difficult if it remains unresolved as Mac Allister moves closer to the final 12 months of his contract.
His experience in the Premier League and ability to control games make him a valuable player for Liverpool, while his advancing prime could increase the appeal of a move to interested clubs.
For now, Real Madrid’s interest has not developed into a formal bid. Liverpool will nevertheless need to establish whether Mac Allister is central to the club’s long-term plans or whether a future sale should be considered before his contract situation strengthens the hand of potential suitors.
