A man was found dead in a West Phoenix street after Phoenix police responded to reports of gunfire, with detectives investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Officers were called to the area near 107th Avenue and Broadway Road shortly after midnight on September 23 following multiple reports of shots fired. A separate caller reported seeing someone lying in the road.
Police initially believed the man might have been involved in a collision. However, officers later determined that no vehicle crash had taken place, according to Phoenix Police Sergeant John Buchanan.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said his death was connected to the shooting reports, although details of what happened remained unclear.
At least one person was detained by officers, but police had not confirmed whether anyone would be formally arrested or booked into custody.
Broadway Road was closed while investigators examined the scene. Anyone with information has been asked to contact Phoenix police or provide an anonymous tip to Silent Witness.
