A man accused of killing a Dallas resident during an alleged catalytic-converter theft in 2021 has been arrested in Mexico and extradited to Texas, police said.
Juvencio Solorzano, 22, was located by members of the US Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force and taken into custody, according to the Dallas Police Department. He has since been booked into Dallas County Jail and charged with capital murder.
Solorzano is accused of shooting Sergio Maas, also 22, outside his third-floor flat at the Spanish Village apartment complex on Sumter Drive on 1 December 2021.
Police said Maas was woken by an unusual noise at about 4am and saw several people near his Toyota Sequoia in the car park. He took his keys to the balcony and activated the vehicle’s alarm.
Moments later, gunfire struck Maas. He fell backwards into his flat and was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators said.
Detectives determined that the group had removed the catalytic converter from Maas’s vehicle. Solorzano was identified as the person accused of firing the fatal shot.
Isabel Campbell was arrested in 2022 in connection with the killing. Court records show she later pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
It was not immediately clear whether any other people had been arrested in connection with the case.
