Manchester United’s January transfer plans could be shaped by two conditions, with transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano saying the club will assess the market if poor form continues and suitable players become available.
The Red Devils have made a difficult start to the Premier League campaign, prompting questions over whether their squad has sufficient quality to compete consistently. United are prepared to consider further additions, although the potential number of signings remains unclear.
Romano said on YouTube: “So Man United believe if the right opportunities are still there in terms of players and if the form will remain poor, Man Utd will still be keen on signing players.
“Let’s see how many. This is too early to say, but United would study opportunities on the market in the January window.
“So keep an eye on that one because this obviously depends on these two factors (poor results, availability of right players).”
Manchester United consider defensive reinforcements
United have invested significantly in attack and midfield during recent transfer windows, but strengthening the defence could now become a priority.
The left-back position is one area the club may revisit after previously considering Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall. That move did not happen, and Hall subsequently committed his future to Newcastle.
United could return to the market for a suitable option in January if the right opportunity emerges, potentially adding depth and greater competition for places.
Striker target could depend on Zirkzee’s future
The club are also reportedly considering an experienced striker to improve their attacking options. Benjamin Sesko’s injury problems have highlighted the need for greater depth, while Joshua Zirkzee’s future could influence United’s recruitment plans.
Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta has emerged as a possible target, although a move could depend on Zirkzee leaving Old Trafford.
United’s activity in the winter transfer window is therefore likely to depend on both their results and the availability of players capable of strengthening the squad.
