A married couple have been arrested over an alleged California brothel operation that prosecutors say generated about 700,000 US dollars a year through prostitution services at a Cupertino spa.
Lin Wang, 46, and Xian Wang, 48, owned Hummingbird Day Spa, which allegedly operated mainly as a brothel from 2022 until it was raided in September 2026.
Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen said the business was “busy”, serving about 30 men a day and offering a range of illegal sexual services.
The district attorney’s Human Trafficking Task Force began investigating in March after complaints from people in the community about alleged erotic services at the spa.
Investigators said they found that large numbers of customers visited each day for short periods, paying for sex.
Prosecutors allege that the Wangs and a spa supervisor, Rui Wang, used the proceeds to keep the business running, pay mortgages and manage personal finances.
The three were charged with pimping, pandering, money laundering and payroll fraud. They were arrested on September 10 and arraigned on felony charges at the Hall of Justice on Thursday afternoon.
Two women connected with the spa were receiving support services, Mr Rosen said. He added: “There is no room in our neighborhoods for working brothels” and “criminal exploitation of human beings.”
