About 84,000 Melissa & Doug fire truck activity boards sold exclusively by Target have been recalled in the US after a detachable part was found to pose a choking hazard to young children.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on Thursday, September 17, saying the small black plastic port designed to resemble a fire hose can loosen and come away from the toy.
Melissa & Doug has received 26 reports of the part detaching, including one report of a minor cut.
Which Melissa & Doug fire truck toys are affected?
The recalled product is a red plastic “Lights & Sounds Fire Truck Activity Board”, fitted with four black wheels, a rotating white ladder and various features that trigger lights and sounds.
Affected toys measure roughly 10.5in by 14.31in by 3.06in and weigh about 1.6lb. They were sold at Target stores across the US and through Target’s website between July 2025 and August 2026 for approximately $30.
Customers can check the date wheels on the underside of the toy. Recalled units have arrows pointing to the number 25 and either 4 or 5, or to 26 and 3. The packaging carries one of three codes: OET 25100, OET 25150 or OET 26064.
What customers should do
Consumers are being told to stop using the fire truck activity board immediately and keep it away from children.
Melissa & Doug is offering either a free replacement, a $30 refund by cheque or a $40 credit for its online shop. Customers must register through the company’s recall service to begin the process.
As part of the remedy, owners will be instructed to remove the batteries, mark the front of the toy with the word “RECALL” and a code supplied during registration, and cut off the black hose. They must then upload a photograph of the destroyed toy before disposing of it in ordinary household rubbish once the registration has been confirmed.
