Micah Richards has backed Manchester City’s response to the turmoil surrounding the club after their emphatic 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.
Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki were on target as City secured an impressive win in their first match since news emerged during the international break about the outcome of the case involving the club’s 115 charges.
An independent panel found Manchester City guilty of the vast majority of those charges. The club is set to appeal the decision, but the ruling has placed the Premier League side under renewed scrutiny.
Micah Richards on Manchester City’s win at Liverpool
Richards, a former City defender, said the attention surrounding the club could have strengthened the players’ resolve ahead of the trip to Liverpool.
“It’s difficult because when you’re in the dressing room and there’s’ outside noise it makes you stronger,” Richards said during his punditry work with Sky Sports.
He added: “It’s us against the world. The performance was always going to happen.”
City were good value for their victory on Merseyside, but the result will be assessed against the continuing questions over the charges and the panel’s findings.
