Stella Klim, the 19-year-old daughter of Australian Olympic swimming champion Michael Klim, has been injured in a motorcycle crash in Bali after suffering a seizure during the ride.
Her mother, former model and Balinese royal Lindy Klim, said Stella was thrown from the motorbike and found by the roadside after the incident.
“My poor baby suffered a seizure while on the back of a motorbike,” Ms Klim wrote in a post to her Instagram followers.
“Luckily, she was wearing her helmet and I was two minutes behind her . . . I found her on the side of the road.”
Bystanders helped Stella before her mother reached the scene, which Ms Klim described as the “scariest few minutes of my life”. She said her daughter had suffered gravel rash across her body.
Stella received medical treatment at the family’s home in Bali and is said to be recovering. A photograph shared by her mother showed the teenager standing with a large square of gauze covering her right buttock and upper thigh.
Ms Klim also thanked the local people who came to her daughter’s aid, writing: “The way this community shows up for strangers is really something else. I love Bali.”
Stella Klim had recently spoken about epilepsy
The crash came five days after Stella publicly revealed that she had been diagnosed with epilepsy.
In an eight-minute TikTok video, she spoke about her experiences and the fear caused by her seizures. Writing to her 5,000 followers, she said: “If sharing my journey makes even one person feel a little less alone, then it’s worth opening up.”
“I never ever want epilepsy to run the show,” she added.
Michael Klim won two Olympic gold medals and seven World Championship titles during his swimming career in the early 2000s.
