Eric Idle has said he has no sympathy for Nick Reiner as the defendant seeks access to family money to fund his defence against charges over the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner.
The Monty Python star was asked about the dispute in New York City on Monday. His response was brief: “I was the last man probably to talk to his father, so I have no sympathy.”
Idle said he had spoken to Rob Reiner for more than an hour on the night before Rob and his wife were killed at their home.
The pair had been friends for 50 years. Idle later paid tribute to Reiner on X, describing him as a “lovely man” and saying they had discussed filming, the future and plans to see each other again.
Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents’ deaths.

Reiner has been seeking access to money held in his trust, saying he needs it to pay for a private defence lawyer.
His legal team has claimed that he is owed 558,000 dollars and argued that at least 325,000 dollars came from his grandfather, Carl Reiner.
They have maintained that the money should not be blocked under California’s Slayer Statute. For Idle, however, the dispute over the funds has not altered his view.
