A mother is due to face an additional murder charge after a one-year-old child allegedly stabbed in the Blue Mountains died in hospital.
Three children and the 42-year-old woman were found injured inside a car on Waratah Road in Valley Heights at about 12.45pm on Sunday. The oldest child, aged five, died at the scene, while the one-year-old and a three-year-old were taken to hospital.
New South Wales Police confirmed on Thursday that the baby had died. The three-year-old remains in a critical condition in hospital.
The woman, who police said had suffered self-inflicted injuries, was initially charged with murder in a domestic violence matter and two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent to murder, also marked as domestic violence offences.
She was refused bail during an appearance in court on Tuesday and is due to appear at Penrith Local Court on November 20, when she will face the additional murder charge. She has not been named for legal reasons.
It is understood the alarm was raised after a cyclist came across the family’s vehicle with its doors open. Members of the public provided first aid and called triple-0, while the children’s father was reportedly at work when he was informed of the incident.
