Brad Pitt served as grand marshal and gave the start call at the NASCAR Cup Series Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee, where he was joined by his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon.
The 62-year-old actor attended Saturday’s race alongside Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris, taking part in the event as he promotes his forthcoming film Heart of the Beast.
Pitt and de Ramon were present at the drivers’ meeting before the race, and the actor was also seen speaking with retired NFL star Russell Wilson and former NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon.
Morris had described Pitt’s appearance as a way to welcome a fellow Springfield, Missouri native to Bristol. He also linked the actor’s involvement to his role in A River Runs Through It, which he said had helped inspire greater appreciation for fly-fishing and conservation.
“It’s pretty special to welcome our fellow Springfield, Missouri, native to Bristol for the Bass Pro Shops Night Race,” Morris said in a statement.
“This race is one of the most exciting nights in sports, and we’re proud to have Brad join us as we salute conservation and honour the brave veterans, first responders and the men and women who serve our country and communities.”
Heart of the Beast to arrive in cinemas
Pitt’s appearance at the race came days after he attended the premiere of Heart of the Beast in Franklin, Tennessee, wearing a camouflage suit. De Ramon also joined him at that event.
In the film, Pitt plays Special Forces officer James Belmont, who becomes stranded in the Alaskan wilderness with his combat dog, Odin, after a plane crash.
The pair are forced to fight for survival against the elements in the adventure thriller, directed by David Ayer, which explores the bond between a man and his dog.
Heart of the Beast is due to be released in cinemas on 25 September.
