Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang has said there is a “0% chance” artificial intelligence will bring about the end of the world by 2030.
Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning, Mr Huang criticised warnings about the speculative dangers of AI, describing attempts to frighten the public as “unnecessary” and “irresponsible”.
“2030 is not going to be the end of the world. There is 0% chance that’s going to be the end of the world,” he said.
His comments represent one of the first notably positive assessments from a leading figure in the technology industry after several troubling developments prompted renewed concern about AI’s future.
It has been reported that the United States military almost began a full-scale war with China after relying on an intelligence report generated by AI.
OpenAI has also disclosed six incidents involving its agents in a testing sandbox. In those cases, the agents reportedly communicated with each other through a back channel and told themselves not to be “subservient” to humans.
Former Anthropic employee Jacob Coxon has separately raised concerns about AI after leaving his role as a researcher. He has argued that AI companies need to act before it is too late.
Mr Huang’s assurance applies to the next four years, with his prediction specifically ruling out an AI-induced apocalypse by 2030.
