Two brothers were found dead inside a Houston home after a neighbour reported a foul odour coming from the property, police said.
Houston Police Department officers were called to the residence in the 11,600 block of Downey Street, near Little York Road, at about 5.15pm on Monday, September 14.
According to the department, officers entered the house and found two unresponsive men inside. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced both men dead at the scene.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is expected to carry out autopsies. The men’s identities and causes of death had not been confirmed by police as of Tuesday, September 15.
Neighbours told local reporters that the two men were brothers who had lived at the property for decades. They said the pair had not been seen since about September 7.
Residents also said three brothers had previously lived at the house, although one had moved out within the past month. The accounts have not been independently confirmed by police.
A woman told FOX 26 that her husband went to check whether anyone was inside after the smell was noticed. She said he saw what appeared to be two badly decomposed bodies through a window.
Police have not identified any suspect or confirmed that a crime took place. The investigation remains focused on establishing how the men died.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division on 713-308-3600.
