Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man near Jenin after alleging that he had attempted a vehicular attack close to the settlement of Ganim in the northern occupied West Bank. In a separate incident, an Israeli settler was fatally shot near Halamish in the central West Bank.
An Israeli army spokesperson said the Palestinian man was shot east of Jenin on Sunday. No Israeli forces were reported to have been injured.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society said its medical team was prevented from reaching the victim, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.
Near Halamish, police said a 30-year-old Israeli man died in hospital after being wounded in a shooting. The military said the suspected attacker opened fire from a vehicle before fleeing on foot.
Security forces later detained the suspect at a hospital where he had sought treatment, the military said. It added that the man had been injured while escaping.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, said he had ordered the military and security agencies to reinforce their presence in the area and carry out arrests and offensive activities. He also ordered the demolition of the suspected attacker’s home.
Israeli forces subsequently closed all entrances to and exits from the cities of Ramallah and el-Bireh, Wafa reported.
