Philadelphia’s weather forecast points to a sharp turn towards autumn, with cloud, rain and cooler temperatures expected as summer draws to a close in the city.
Monday, September 21, the final day of summer, is set to remain largely overcast after a few early showers, with temperatures reaching only the low 70s Fahrenheit.
More persistent rain is expected from the early hours of Tuesday, when autumn officially begins. Showers could continue for much of the day, particularly along the Interstate 95 corridor, before easing by the evening.
Temperatures are forecast to reach about 65F on Tuesday, with breezy conditions likely near the coast. The cooler weather is expected to continue through the middle of the week, with highs in the mid-60s and further chances of showers.

The change will mark a noticeable break from the warmer, more humid conditions seen across the region in recent weeks. Forecasters expect a predominantly cloudy and unsettled pattern before conditions become more comfortable towards the weekend.
Saturday currently offers the best prospect of improved weather, with temperatures returning to the 70s and a mixture of sunshine and cloud. Sunday is expected to be similarly mild, although the chance of rain remains under review.
The autumnal equinox will take place at about 8.04pm local time on Tuesday, bringing the official change of season to Philadelphia.
Shorter days will become increasingly noticeable. Sunset is due at around 7pm on Monday, falling to approximately 6.40pm by the start of October, about 6pm by the end of that month and 4.58pm in November.
