A preliminary magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck near Piru in Ventura County, California, on Tuesday evening, with tremors reportedly felt across parts of Southern California.
The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake was recorded at a depth of roughly 6.6 miles. Its epicentre was about 2.5 miles south-east of Piru, north of Simi Valley and east of Santa Clarita.
Reports submitted to the USGS indicated that shaking was felt as far away as Ojai, Palmdale and Santa Barbara.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage following the earthquake.
