Presley Gerber, the model son of Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, has died aged 27 in what has been reported as a suspected overdose at a rehabilitation facility in the Los Angeles area.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said Gerber died on Sunday. A report said his family had been informed that his death appeared to have resulted from an overdose, although the circumstances have not been formally confirmed in the material available.
Gerber had been staying in a separate house on the grounds of the facility. His family includes his sister, model and actress Kaia Gerber.
A spokesman for Cindy Crawford said: “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”
Presley Gerber had spoken openly about his struggles
Gerber had described a decade-long battle with drug addiction and mental health problems, including depression, panic attacks and night terrors.
Last November, he said he had taken a step back from social media to “take care of my own mental health for a bit”. The following month, he began posting videos under the title “Mental Health Mondays”, discussing his treatment and the medication he was taking.
“I feel like honesty is the best policy,” he said in one video, explaining that his medication had been “fluctuating up and down depending on what’s been going on in my life”.
Gerber said he had experienced significant loss, without giving details, and that his panic attacks could be “really, really bad”. He also spoke of feeling uncertain about the advice he had received from doctors, saying he had seen 15 psychiatrists.
“I need some direction,” he said, describing the difficulty of managing what he called an overwhelming range of medication.
In July 2025, Gerber spoke about trying to bring healthier habits back into his life. He said he had been a very active child who took part in swimming, surfing and water polo, but that sport became less important after he began working.
“The quality of life rapidly decreased,” he said, adding that it had taken him 10 years to realise he needed to reconnect with physical activity.
Gerber’s modelling career
Gerber began modelling at 15 and later worked on campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana and Calvin Klein. He was signed to IMG Models and appeared in a Pepsi advert with his mother in 2018.
He was arrested for driving under the influence in 2019 and had continued to discuss his mental health publicly in the years that followed.
During a podcast appearance in 2023, Gerber described his mental health as “such a big part of my life” and said he hoped his experiences could help others facing similar difficulties.
“Whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do,” he said.
Kaia Gerber recently spoke about the effect of her brother’s struggles on their family, saying: “When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone.”
She said she had come to see herself as “the easy one” and had avoided asking for help because it felt like too much for both children to be struggling at the same time.
Kaia also praised her brother’s willingness to speak openly, describing his honesty as “refreshing”.
In May, Gerber paid tribute to his father in an Instagram post, sharing a photograph of them paddle boarding together. He wrote that Rande had “never given up on me” and was “always there for me”.
Rande Gerber replied: “Sometimes we may fall but with a little help always get back up. I love you forever Prez.”
