Nicolas Jackson’s discipline has been criticised after the Aston Villa forward was substituted at half time during the 2-1 defeat by Nottingham Forest.
Jackson, who joined Villa from Chelsea as part of the club’s efforts to strengthen their attack, was at risk of being sent off after a difficult first-half display. Manager Unai Emery removed him during the interval.
The defeat leaves Aston Villa 19th in the Premier League after four matches, with the club still searching for goals and consistency at the start of the season.
Jason Cundy condemns Nicolas Jackson discipline
Former Chelsea player and pundit Jason Cundy condemned Jackson’s conduct, claiming the striker has repeatedly failed to learn from similar incidents.
“I promise you now, Nicolas Jackson’s discipline is an absolute disgrace. I watched him pick up red and yellow cards for fun, he won’t learn. He has a discipline problem,” Cundy said.
He added: “The thing with Jackson, he will pick up a yellow card not for a tackle.
“He’ll pick it up for saying something to the referee, pulling someone’s shirt… kicking the ball away, all of that, not when you put in a mistimed tackle.”
Jackson’s early withdrawal came as Villa attempted to recover from their latest defeat, with the forward’s arrival intended to help address the team’s attacking problems.
