Diego Simeone has praised Barcelona as the best team in La Liga after Hansi Flick’s side extended their remarkable scoring run with a 3-1 victory over Sevilla.
The Atletico Madrid manager was particularly impressed by Barcelona’s intensity, attacking quality and willingness to take risks, describing their performances as almost belonging to “a different sport”.
“Honestly, they play amazingly well. It’s like they’re playing a different sport—a sport completely different from the one we play,” Simeone said.
He also highlighted the form of Raphinha, who he said had scored 12 goals in seven games, while adding that Lamine Yamal had seven goals.
“The numbers are incredible; they press you high up the pitch, they close down your time on the ball, and they aren’t afraid to take risks—even if it means conceding—because it seems like conceding a goal just makes them even more dangerous, since they’re simply the better side,” Simeone said.
Barcelona lead the way as goals continue to flow
Simeone’s Atletico also made an impact at the top of the table by beating Real Madrid 2-1 in the first Madrid derby of the season, a result that benefited Barcelona.
But the Atletico boss believes Barcelona’s current level is beyond comparison. “Right now, they are the best team in the league, based on what they are showing,” he said.
Barcelona will now face a three-week international break, with their challenge being to maintain their momentum when club football resumes.
