Roger Lynch has been named Mattel’s new chief executive and chairman, succeeding Ynon Kreiz after more than eight years in charge of the toymaker and entertainment company.
Lynch, who has served on Mattel’s board since 2018, will become chairman on October 2 and take over as chief executive by November 2.
He is currently chief executive of Condé Nast, a role he has held since 2019. Mike Perlis will serve as the publisher’s interim CEO while its board searches for Lynch’s successor.
“I am honored by the Board’s confidence in me and couldn’t be more excited to lead the incredible team at Mattel,” Lynch said. “Throughout my years on the Board, I have admired Mattel’s brands, its talented people, and unique culture.”
Kreiz is leaving Mattel to take a senior leadership position at another public company. During his tenure, he oversaw major changes at the business, including the release of Barbie, which became the highest-grossing domestic film release of 2023.
“It has been a privilege to lead Mattel, with a global team dedicated to its mission and purpose, and I am proud of all we have achieved together,” Kreiz said. “Mattel is in a position of strength, with a world-class brand portfolio, product offering, and global capabilities.”
Mattel has been strengthening its established brands, with Hot Wheels identified as a notable area of strength, while also seeking to expand in digital games and compete with rival Hasbro.
The company acquired full control of its Mattel163 mobile games studio earlier this year.
