Family and friends have gathered to remember Jacinta Resendiz Reyes, a 31-year-old mother of two who was struck and killed while riding her bicycle in East San Jose.
Resendiz Reyes died after the collision at the intersection of East Capitol Expressway and Ocala Avenue at about 6.15am on Friday, September 25. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
San Jose police said she had been travelling east on Ocala Avenue when she was hit by a white 2017 Ford F-350 pickup travelling north on Capitol Expressway. The truck driver was travelling through the junction on a green light, according to investigators.
The driver remained at the scene and co-operated with the investigation. Police said alcohol and drugs were not believed to have played a role in the crash.
The collision was San Jose’s 37th traffic-related death of 2026. Police initially described the incident as a possible hit-and-run before making contact with the driver.
Resendiz Reyes’s relatives and friends gathered to pay tribute to her as the investigation continued. Her death has left two children without their mother.
