Sara Gilson’s cause of death has been confirmed as a gunshot wound to the head, with her death ruled a homicide more than two months after she was killed in Oklahoma.
Medical examiner documents state that Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey’s death was recorded as suicide. Toxicology testing on Duffey was negative.
Owasso Police previously said Duffey shot Ms Gilson before taking his own life inside her home on July 23. A child in the house called 911, and Ms Gilson could apparently be heard “screaming and crying” in the background before a loud bang.
Duffey was being investigated over an allegation of lewd molestation involving a minor when the shootings took place. Weeks earlier, Ms Gilson had sought an emergency protective order against him after authorities said he had inappropriately touched a 15-year-old girl on a youth basketball team he coached.
A separate protective order was filed on behalf of the teenager. Police said the alleged conduct had reportedly taken place over an extended period and across multiple states.
The case had been referred to the US Attorney’s Office for review before Ms Gilson’s death, but the investigation has since been closed.
Less than two weeks before the murder-suicide, Ms Gilson posted a TikTok accusing Duffey of being a “pedophile” and saying she was preparing a documentary about her “soon to be ex husband”.
