A murder investigation has been launched after a newborn baby girl was found dead at a property in Sheffield, with seven people arrested on suspicion of murder.
South Yorkshire Police said officers were called shortly before 6am on Sunday, August 30, following concerns for the safety of a newborn in the Wincobank area.
Officers searched a property on Holywell Heights, where the baby was found. Despite efforts by police and paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
All seven people arrested remain in police custody, while officers work to establish the ages of some of those detained.
Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight, the senior investigating officer, said the force had a dedicated team working to secure justice for the baby girl and urged people not to speculate while the inquiry remains in its early stages.
