Tottenham and Aston Villa have been handed a fresh opportunity to sign Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis, who is reportedly keen to fulfil his ambition of playing in the Premier League.
The Greece international has become an important figure in Lisbon since joining Benfica from AZ Alkmaar in 2024. He scored 30 goals and supplied six assists in 53 appearances last season, attracting interest from several clubs across Europe.
Vangelis Pavlidis remains on Premier League radar
Both Aston Villa and Tottenham were interested in Pavlidis during the summer. Benfica were understood to be willing to consider an offer of about €40 million, despite the striker having a €100 million release clause.
A transfer did not materialise after Benfica’s new manager, Marco Silva, made retaining Pavlidis one of his priorities. The forward stayed in Portugal, although his future could come under renewed discussion in the next transfer windows.
Pavlidis is said to regard a move to England as a significant career ambition and would be open to leaving if Benfica agree to his departure and suitable terms can be reached.
Tottenham’s interest has continued, with a scout reportedly watching Pavlidis during Benfica’s meeting with Porto last month. Spurs could require another striker if Richarlison departs, while Dominic Solanke and Omar Marmoush are currently among their other attacking options.
Aston Villa have Nicolas Jackson, Tammy Abraham and Brian Madjo available in the forward positions. With Pavlidis already keen on Premier League football, the Greek striker’s position could become one to monitor if Benfica grow more receptive to offers.
