A 16-year-old boy has been killed and his 12-year-old sister critically injured in a hit-and-run in South Los Angeles, with police searching for the driver and passenger who fled the scene.
The siblings were walking with their mother when they were struck at about 9.30pm on Tuesday, 22 September, near 10th Avenue and 60th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Investigators said a blue Nissan Sentra was travelling eastbound on 60th Street when it hit both children as they crossed the road. Their mother was not struck.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His sister was taken to hospital with critical injuries.
After hitting the pedestrians, the Nissan collided with a parked vehicle and became disabled. The female driver and male passenger then abandoned the car and ran away, police said.
The suspects have not been identified and no detailed descriptions have been released. It also remains unclear whether speed or impairment contributed to the collision.
Police are asking anyone with information about the South Los Angeles hit-and-run to come forward.
