A 15-year-old boy has died after a concrete slab fell on him at a precast concrete factory in Dandenong South, in Melbourne’s south-east.
Emergency services were called to the site on Carter Way at about 10.45am on Thursday following reports of an industrial accident.
The teenager is understood to have been struck by an upright concrete panel while several staff members were nearby, many of them on their smoko break.
Multiple ambulances, police cars and a fire truck attended the factory. Paramedics treated the boy at the scene, but he could not be saved.
Detectives remained at the site for several hours as they investigated the circumstances of the incident. Personal support staff were also brought in to assist workers.
WorkSafe investigators were inside the factory examining how the concrete slab fell. The company declined to comment while the investigation was under way.
