Scotland suffered a 3-0 defeat by Switzerland at Hampden Park after Jack Hendry was sent off inside the opening 10 minutes of Sebastien Pocognoli’s first home match in charge.
Hendry brought down Dan Ndoye while denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, prompting Serbian referee Nenad Minakovic to award a penalty and show the defender a yellow card. A VAR review found the challenge had taken place outside the area, but the red card remained.
Ricardo Rodriguez then gave Switzerland the lead from the resulting free-kick, curling an effort from the edge of the box into the top-left corner beyond Angus Gunn.
Scotland responded with determination despite being a player short. John McGinn appealed unsuccessfully for a penalty during a corner, while Andy Robertson, winning his 99th cap, sent the next set-piece over the crossbar.
Switzerland punish Scotland after the break
The visitors extended their advantage in the 55th minute when Remo Freuler’s low delivery found Nico Elvedi, who guided the ball into the far corner from close range.
Switzerland continued to threaten, with Ndoye sending a dangerous ball across the area shortly after half-time that Johan Manzambi narrowly failed to reach.
The scoring was completed eight minutes from time. Ndoye cut the ball back for Burnley forward Zeki Amdouni, who stepped onto the pass and struck it beyond Gunn.
The result leaves Scotland still searching for their first victory in Nations League B1. They travel to North Macedonia on Saturday before hosting Slovenia at Hampden next Tuesday.
Pocognoli was booked in first-half stoppage time after showing his frustration at a series of refereeing decisions.
