Tottenham have been handed a double injury boost, with Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke reportedly avoiding serious problems and remaining in contention to face Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Both defenders withdrew from the Netherlands squad after sustaining injuries during international duty. However, Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof has reported that the damage is minor, giving Tottenham hope that the pair could recover in time for the weekend.
Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke remain in contention
Van de Ven was forced off during the Netherlands’ 2-1 Nations League victory over Serbia on Sunday evening after Luka Jović accidentally landed on his hand and arm.
Netherlands head coach Xavi Simons sought to ease concerns after the match, saying: “It’s okay. He felt dizzy because he had a lot of pain on his finger. But it’s not a major injury.”
Van Hecke also left the Dutch camp after suffering a foot injury against Serbia. He returned to London for assessment by Tottenham’s medical staff, with early indications suggesting that his issue is not serious.
Neither player has been ruled out of the trip to Manchester United, although their availability will depend on how quickly they recover before the match.
Tottenham need defensive boost after poor start
The update comes at an important point for Roberto De Zerbi, whose Tottenham side have endured a difficult opening to the Premier League season.
Spurs are bottom of the table without a win from their first five fixtures. Having both central defenders available would ease a major selection concern for De Zerbi as Tottenham look for a result at Old Trafford.
