Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Benfica right-back Daniel Banjaqui, with the 18-year-old attracting interest from a number of leading European clubs.
Banjaqui has emerged as one of Portuguese football’s promising young defenders after progressing through Benfica’s academy and joining the senior squad this season. He also gained first-team experience during the previous campaign.
Tottenham are understood to be monitoring his development alongside Premier League rivals Brighton. Juventus, Roma, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad are also reportedly keeping track of the teenager.
Tottenham face competition for Daniel Banjaqui
The Portugal Under-21 international is regarded as a player with considerable potential. His physical strength, stamina and ability to cope in one-on-one situations have helped to raise his profile.
Banjaqui can also offer an attacking threat from right-back, a quality increasingly valued in modern full-backs. Tottenham could see him as a potential long-term addition capable of developing into a reliable first-team option.
However, there have been no formal negotiations between Benfica and any of the interested clubs. Intermediaries are understood to have gathered information and made initial contact, while the defender remains under contract with the Portuguese club until 2031.
Benfica set substantial valuation for defender
Banjaqui’s agreement reportedly contains a €45 million release clause, while Benfica would consider selling him only if an offer of at least €35 million is received.
That valuation could make a deal difficult for Tottenham, particularly with several established European clubs monitoring the defender. It remains to be seen whether Spurs will turn their reported interest into a formal approach.
