Tottenham are prepared to lower Richarlison’s asking price to between £15 million and £20 million when the January transfer window opens, as the club looks to bring an end to the striker’s difficult spell in north London.
The 29-year-old was left out of Tottenham’s 25-man Premier League squad after failing to secure a move during the summer. He is no longer part of Roberto De Zerbi’s first-team plans.
That has left Spurs with limited bargaining power, particularly after a proposed return to Everton collapsed before the transfer deadline.
Tottenham ready to reduce Richarlison asking price
The new valuation would represent a substantial reduction on the £35 million figure discussed with Everton during the summer. Tottenham also rejected an informal offer of about £20 million from Trabzonspor at a time when they were still seeking closer to £35 million.
Richarlison’s position has since weakened further. De Zerbi ruled out using him in the Carabao Cup, despite Tottenham having the option to register him for the competition, leaving the forward without a clear route back into the side.
Although Richarlison remains under contract, his lack of competitive football and reported desire to leave mean Tottenham have far less leverage than they had several months ago.
The Brazilian was Tottenham’s leading Premier League scorer last season, with 11 goals in 32 appearances. That record has done little to alter his current situation, with the club understood to be seeking a solution that removes an expensive and unhappy player from outside the squad.
January move seen as the likeliest outcome
A sale in the region of £15 million to £20 million would fall well short of Tottenham’s earlier expectations, but it would allow the club to free up wages and potentially reinvest in a forward better suited to De Zerbi’s plans.
The main difficulty will be finding a buyer able to meet both the reduced fee and Richarlison’s personal demands. His failed attempts to join Everton and Vasco da Gama indicate that agreeing a transfer between clubs would not necessarily complete the move.
With Tottenham having made clear that Richarlison is not part of their first-team plans, January now appears to be the most likely point for the striker’s departure.
