Mykhailo Mudryk has given Tottenham Hotspur the green light to pursue a move before the transfer window closes, putting Leeds United’s hopes of signing the Chelsea winger in serious doubt.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the Ukraine international has agreed to join Spurs and has made a reunion with head coach Roberto De Zerbi a priority. Discussions between Chelsea and Tottenham are understood to be under way over a possible loan deal.
Leeds had been pushing to take Mudryk to Elland Road, but the player has put other options on hold while he waits to see whether a move to north London can be completed.
The Tottenham approach was also reported by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who said Spurs had made an enquiry for the 25-year-old. De Zerbi’s previous relationship with Mudryk could prove significant, with the Italian having worked with him during his time in charge of Shakhtar Donetsk.
Mudryk is now eligible to return to competitive football after the Football Association confirmed in July that his anti-doping case had been resolved with the agreement of the World Anti-Doping Agency.
The FA said the winger had accepted anti-doping rule violations and a period of ineligibility equivalent to the time he had already served. He had initially been provisionally suspended in December 2024 after an out-of-competition test detected a low concentration of meldonium.
Tottenham are looking to add greater depth and quality to their attacking options under De Zerbi, who was appointed the club’s head coach in March. A loan move would give Mudryk the opportunity to rebuild his form after a lengthy absence, while allowing Spurs to assess whether a permanent deal could be justified next summer.
Nothing has yet been finalised, however, and Chelsea must still agree to the proposed arrangement. Mudryk’s future at Stamford Bridge appears uncertain, with the club likely to welcome a successful loan spell that could improve his prospects of securing a permanent move.
